This photo illustrate sustainable development challenges. The wharf has been renovated as a community project (2000) and sits on the shore of the Richelieu River. Being the source of tap water for many municipalities, it is distressing to know that the river is quite polluted. Public access for water sports is also limited because unrefrained speculation makes it nearly impossible for small municipalities to buy shores for public access. Higher property evaluation and taxes forces low-income people to sell their homes, soon replaced by mansions.
